+2 Morale bonus

I am in the middle of thesis crunch time. It would be easy to despair. Fortunately, I have been pointed at things that made me laugh and thus prevented me from giving up hope. These things include:

1. Anton Vowl from Enemies of Reason on "Why do I love my ironing board?. I sympathise. I am also strangely fond of my ironing board. I can make cloth flatter with it. This makes me feel In Control.

2. Jane Austen's Fight Club is hilarious and awesome. And features Lizzie Bennett and Fanny Price fighting in their underwear.

3. A cautionary tale from [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants about the importance of good proofreading. It is very plausible that Sirius Black's middle name might be Orion - it's his father's name, it fits with the whole star name thing. The only problem is that it then takes one typo to plunge us into the alternative universe in which the Blacks saddled their son with the middle name Onion. As, presumably, some kind of Slytherin version of the Boy Named Sue.

I kind of want this to be canon now.

ETA: Also, a fox just wandered into my back garden, prowled around for a bit, came right up to the French windows and gave me a Look, then cleared off. And that was quite cool.

*Thesis crunch hugs*
The end is in sight! Hang in there!

I've broken the back of the thesis now. Not far to go!

When do you hand in?

15th September at the latest. Am currently going through two sets of supervisors corrections and trying to rationalise the two...

Argh, sympathy. Best of luck with it!

These are great, especially Fight Club. Jane Austen heroines slugging it out in their underwear appeals to me on so many levels, most of which are sub-basements.

Lizzie could have taken Fanny without breaking a sweat, I think.

The Jane Austen Heroine Cage Match is an idea to conjure with, I think. My money's on Lizzie, too.

Further mood-enhancing Awesome burst in upon me today with the discovery that [livejournal.com profile] redscharlach (who is responsible for my favourite Tosh icon), has also made a set for Sherlock. [Very mild spoilers for "The Blind Banker".] They are here. I am very tempted to nab one of the Mycrofts.

There are loads of foxes on our street. I keep running into them walking home; one let me come right up to it before it ran away.

I should probably be more concerned about them, really, but I'm not.

I'm taking a fairly relaxed attitude to the foxes too. I severely doubt that something the size of a fox is going to attack something the size of an adult human unless it's cornered, defending its cubs, or rabid (and the UK is still a rabies-free zone). I expect that foxes are mostly a threat to dustbins (which I can live with), and possibly small unattended children (which are not something we have to worry about).

Jane Austen's Fight Club - awesome! This reminds me of Andy Hamilton's radio comedy series "Old Harry's Game", in which we meet the soul of Jane Austen in Hell and discover that she is a foul-mouthed misanthropic brawler. Possibly all the emotions she had to suppress while still alive coming to the fore!

"It is very plausible that Sirius Black's middle name might be Orion"

Even that would give him the initials "SOB", which still seems a rather cruel thing to do to a child.

It was established that his family were evil, and unsubtle Potterverse evil at that. I'm still on the Wizarding Answer To The Boy Named Sue theory, myself.

Also, must see if I can find any old episodes of "Old Harry's Game" now...

~quick google~ Oh, that family. Yeah. ~shudder~

Your BNS theory has now given me the rather wonderful mental image of Johnny Cash as a fightin' Slytherin ~grin~

They've been repeating it on iPlayer, where it's currently partway through S6.
